HUMC Kids

A Place Where Kids GROW. LEARN. LOVE. SERVE.

HUMC Kids meet at the Hebron United Methodist Church from  9:45 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. every Sunday during the school year.  Our program is suited for pre-k through elementary aged children, but we are prepared to gladly teach and mentor middle and high school aged students through a teaching assistant program where they will study the gospel and be part of class planning and teaching.

Our Philosophy

HUMC Kids is a place where God’s children learn they are loved by God  through creative study of the bible. We strive to give your kids life-long lessons in positive and memorable ways, drawing them closer to God and the people of God.

We offer a holistic approach, blending teaching and mission.  For the 2022-2023 Sunday School year, we will be using the Celebrate Wonder curriculum. This one room class creates a safe environment where kids can explore, create and ask big questions.  We believe mentoring and teaching of kids is a partnership between our teaching staff and parents/guardians.

We will also be offering a confirmation class starting January 2023, led by Pastor Char, for 7th graders and up.  Please contact us at churchoffice@hebronmethodist.org if you are interested in having your child join this class in preparation for confirmation in Spring of 2023.

Mission

We believe teaching and mission go hand in hand.  HUMC Kids are actively involved this year in supporting various ministries alongside our HUMC congregation through Mission Links: Living the Beatitudes.

Service

Your kids will actively participate in the life of the congregation, serving in age appropriate ways including helping lead worship as candle acolytes, liturgists, offering collectors and singers.  Your kids will be surrounded by a faith family that knows them, cares for them and continues to share with them.

Our teams provide a safe, fun, and engaging experience where your child can be paired with a leader to guide them into a closer relationship with Jesus.

Beyond the Classroom

Throughout the year HUMC Kids are provided a number of opportunities to GROW. LEARN. LOVE. SERVE.

Rally Day:  We kick off the new Sunday School year with Rally Day!  Each year we build our Rally Day celebration around our mission.  We sing, play games and joyfully introduce the children to a new year of christian growth.  Each child also goes home with a goodie bag full of surprises!  Rally Day is not only celebrated at Sunday School but throughout the service and after, with a luncheon and activities for the children and adult congregation together.

Christmas Pageant:  Every Christmas HUMC Kids creates an original program with costumes, props and music to tell the story of Jesus’ birth.  In the past, we designed our Christmas Pageant as a “drop-in” program during our Christmas Open House.  This meant that any child who attended that day was cast and costumed and led through an 8-minute performance.  We re-cast and repeated the performance several times during the Open House.  Our Star Wars inspired program, “Long Ago in a Manger Far, Far Away” and our “Harry Potter Christmas” were unique and fun retellings of Jesus’ birth.  In 2020, we had to get really creative due to COVID. Our HUMC Kids did an online Christmas Pageant during our online worship service called “Breaking News from Bethlehem” where they told the story of the first Christmas as news reporters in a series of fun and creative interviews from eye witnesses in Bethlehem! In 2021, we retold the Christmas Story from “The Shepherds Point of Ewe” and cast everyone in the congregation for an interactive mash-up of worshipful acting, singing, art work, and physical comedy.  For more details about our upcoming programs, sign up to receive our church newsletter.

Easter Program:  Our Sunday School has a rich history of non-traditional Easter Programs.  Some parents today may remember participating in HUMC Sunrise Service musicals like “The Sound of Easter,” “There’s No Place Like Church,” and “Fiddler on the Pew.”  While we are still a few years out from re-staging these old favorites, HUMC Kids carry on the tradition of presenting rich, musical programs to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord.

Vacation Bible School: HUMC Kids partners with St. John’s Lutheran and other area churches to provide a fun-filled week of summer learning.  This past summer, we learned that we were “Built for a Purpose” through this year’s theme Maker Fun Factory.  To see some photos and read more about the fun we had, click here. Registration for next year’s Alden-Hebron Community VBS will open in May 2019.

In Worship

We think kids are very important and we put that belief into action.  A portion of each worship service is dedicated to teaching your children about the stories of Jesus.  Using props, hands-on illustrations, and Christian dialogue to strengthen and reinforce what is being taught in Sunday School.

Your First Visit

From the moment you pull in the parking lot, you’ll notice lots of friendly faces eager to show you the way. We want to serve you and your child well, so we’ll take some time to get to know you. We’ll ask about allergies, make sure we know what your child likes to be called, and collect your contact information. You are invited to stay and observe at any time.

Meet Our Sunday Teacher

Stephanie grew up attending HUMC Sunday School and worship. She enjoys keeping some of the traditions she grew up with while combining new vehicles of learning for her students today. As a graduate from Butler University in Theater performance, Stephanie pulls from her background in music, dance, puppetry and storytelling to provide the children with an engaging and fun way to learn the stories in the bible and to grow in God’s grace.
