HUMC Sunday Worship – February 28, 2021
You are encouraged to read the Psalm and Prayer below once daily during this Lenten Season.
Psalm 51:10-17 NRSV
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your deliverance. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. For you have no delight in sacrifice; if I were to give a burnt offering, you would not be pleased. The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Gracious God, you have brought us to this season of Lent, this time of preparation for crucifixion and resurrection. Give us courage to examine ourselves, to be honest about who we are and to what we are called, that, on Easter morning, we might meet our Savior with joy; to whom with you and the Spirit, one holy God, be honor and praise, now and forever. Amen. (Thomas Harding, 1990)
Give thanks for blessings and pray for: the worldwide church, the HUMC congregation, leaders and those in power, those who are hurting (sick, injured, grieving, depressed), those who care for us and keep us safe, teachers and students, our enemies, other joys and concerns, ourselves.
